Calvert County Public Schools Appoints New Administrators

The Board of Education of Calvert County Public Schools approved four administrative appointments at the meeting held on July 16.

Dr. Daniel D. Curry, Superintendent, said, “This group of leaders has earned this opportunity to move up through their hard work and dedication. I look forward to working with them in this new role.”

Loren Grimes was appointed as the secondary Supervisor of English Language Arts. She began her career teaching English at Huntingtown High, where she later served as English core lead and most recently as assistant principal. She also brings middle school experience to her new position, having served as the dean at Northern Middle. Ms. Grimes received her bachelor’s degree from Mount St. Mary’s College and her master’s degree from McDaniel College.

Gregg Gott was promoted from Supervisor of Operations to Director of School Facilities. Mr. Gott began his career with Calvert County Public Schools in 1993 as a master electrician. He remained in that position until 2007 when he became the Supervisor of Operations. In the private sector, Mr. Gott was as a job superintendent at the D.O. Baker Company, Inc., and a field service engineer. Mr. Gott is a member of the Calvert County Public Schools negotiations team and the risk management team.

Dona Hook was appointed as assistant principal at Calvert High after serving as dean at Plum Point Middle. Ms. Hook began her teaching career at Windy Hill Middle School, where she taught physical education and served as the athletic director. She later transferred to Calvert High as a health and physical education teacher. She was a volleyball and softball coach and wrote health and physical education curricula for the district. She then moved to Barstow Elementary for five years before landing at Huntingtown High School, teaching health and physical education. Ms. Hook received her bachelor’s degree from Winthrop University and her master’s from Western Maryland College.

Sarah Bento will transition from math core lead to assistant principal at Northern High School. Ms. Bento began her teaching career with the District of Columbia in 2008, then moved to Anne Arundel County Public Schools before coming to Calvert County in 2018. She started working in Calvert as math core lead at Patuxent High before transferring to Northern. Ms. Bento received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Rochester in 2008 and her master’s degree from American University in Washington, D.C., in 2013.

Additionally, three high school assistant principals will be working in new schools next year. Michelle Bell will move from Northern High to Patuxent High, Mark Gladfelter from Patuxent High to Northern High, and Larry Butler from Northern High to Huntingtown High.
