Calvert Students Earn Maryland Seal of Biliteracy

Twenty-seven Calvert County students have earned the Maryland Seal of Biliteracy by demonstrating a high level of proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in one or more languages in addition to English.

Dr. Daniel D. Curry, Superintendent, said, “We recognize that students who speak more than one language have an advantage when they graduate and begin a career or higher education. Some of these students are native speakers of other languages who have mastered English, and some have learned a world language in our schools. We are proud of all of them and look forward to seeing them wear their medals at graduation.”

To be awarded the Seal of Biliteracy, students must earn high scores on both the English Language Arts portion of the Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) and on either an Advanced Placement exam or another world language assessment that is aligned to the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) proficiency guidelines.
