CCPS Teacher Participates in Maryland Chamber Foundation Teacher Externship Program

Calvert County Public Schools (CCPS) Teacher Harold Garrison was the first CCPS teacher to be selected by the Maryland Chamber Foundation for an immersive four-week, paid teacher externship program this past summer.

Mr. Garrison is a teacher at the CCPS’ Career and Technology Academy. The Maryland Chamber Foundation Teacher Externship Program enabled Mr. Garrison to get first-hand information about the Bowers Group.

“This externship has provided me with insight and background to help me best prepare my students with the skills and knowledge, so they are able to immediately enter the workforce upon graduation,” said Mr. Garrison.

The purpose of the Maryland Chamber Foundation’s Teacher Externship Program is to pair Maryland educators with local businesses with the goal of gaining real-world learning essential to transition their students into the workforce. Maryland teachers then bring this knowledge back to the classroom, where they can empower their students with the essential information and skills for a future career.

Mr. Garrison was recognized for his participation in the program with a proclamation from Maryland State Senator Michael Jackson and a special Challenge Coin. To learn more about Mr. Garrison’s experience, view the video at 2022 Teacher Externship Program - Bowers Group - YouTube.

High school teachers and career counselors are encouraged to apply. For more information and to apply for the summer 2023 teacher externship program, visit the Maryland Chamber Foundation's website. Online applications must be submitted by January 2, 2023.
