CCPS' Board of Education Appoints 2023-2024 Administrators and Supervisor of Early Childhood

Calvert County Public Schools’ (CCPS) Board of Education (BOE) approved the appointment of three school administrators and the supervisor of Early Childhood at the BOE May 11, 2023, meeting. The following individuals were appointed as noted: Ms. Andrea Young, principal of Calvert High School; Ms. Sarah Weisner, principal of Barstow Elementary School, Ms. Amanda Merillat, assistant principal of Sunderland Elementary School, and Ms. Michelle Ward, supervisor of Early Childhood.

“All of these individuals have an extensive background in education and are committed to serving our students to ensure they have a positive experience and academic success while at Calvert County Public Schools,” shared Superintendent Dr. Andraé Townsel.

Andrea Young

Ms. Andrea Young

Ms. Andrea Young is currently the assistant principal at Northern High School. Prior to that, she taught in Ohio and Charles County. She also served as a vice-principal intern before coming to Calvert. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Spanish degree and her Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Akron.

Ms. Sarah Weisner

Ms. Sarah Weisner

Ms. Sarah Weisner has taught middle and high school English Language Arts in St. Mary’s County, as well as serving as an instructional resource teacher, acting assistant principal, assistant principal at Margaret Brent Middle and Spring Ridge Middle Schools. Ms. Weisner received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania and her Master of Science in Human Resource Development from Towson University.

 

 

 

 

Ms. Amanda Merillat

Ms. Amanda Merillat

Ms. Amanda Merillat received a Bachelor of Early Childhood Education from Coastal Carolina University and a Master of Leadership–Administration and Supervision from the College of Notre Dame. Ms. Merillat is currently a dean at St. Leonard Elementary School. She has taught at Calvert Elementary and St. Leonard Elementary Schools, as well as serving as an instructional coach at Sunderland Elementary School.

Ms. Michelle Ward

Ms. Michelle Ward

Ms. Michelle Ward is currently the principal at Barstow Elementary. Previously, she taught kindergarten and second grade then served as lead teacher for the CCPS summer school program, learning specialist, dean, assistant principal at Barstow Elementary School. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Elon College and Master of Science in Human Resource Development and Educational Leadership from Towson University.
