Calvert County Future Business Leaders of America Students Excel at Regional Competition
On Saturday, November 16, 2024, students from Huntingtown High School (HHS) and Northern High School (NHS) represented Calvert County at the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Region 4 Conference held at Laurel High School. HHS sent 38 competitors and NHS brought 52, with both schools achieving outstanding results. In total, 77 Calvert County students placed in the top four of their events, earning the chance to advance to the state competition in Baltimore this February.
Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) is the largest career and technical student organization in the world, dedicated to preparing students for careers in business, leadership, and entrepreneurship. Through academic competitions, leadership conferences, and community service, FBLA helps members develop essential skills such as public speaking, teamwork, and critical thinking. The organization provides students with real-world experiences and networking opportunities, setting them up for success in a competitive global economy.
At the regional conference, Calvert County students had an opportunity to test their skills in a wide variety of business and professional competitions alongside students from Charles, Prince George’s, and St. Mary’s Counties.
“The regional conference provides an invaluable opportunity for students to showcase their skills, connect with peers, and gain insight into their competitive performance,” said Lynne Gillis, HHS FBLA sponsor. “I’m incredibly proud of our students for their hard work and dedication, and I’m excited to see them now continue that success at the state level.”
Nancy Tassa, NHS FBLA sponsor, added, “The regional conference was well attended by both NHS and HHS schools; it was great to have so many from Calvert County. I am proud of the work being done at both schools and for how well they represented our chapters and county. I am confident both schools will bring home some state winners.”
