Community Schools

Community Schools in Calvert County Public Schools (CCPS) are designed to support the whole child by connecting students and families with academic, social, emotional, health, and community-based resources. These schools serve as hubs where schools, families, local organizations, and community partners work together to remove barriers to learning and help students thrive.

CCPS has two schools identified as Community Schools through the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE):

  1. Calvert County School (CCS)

  2. Patuxent Appeal Campus (PAC)

CCS and PAC are in Year 1 of implementation, which serves as a foundational planning year. During this phase, each school conducts a comprehensive Needs and Assets Assessment to identify the strengths, resources, and areas of need within both the school and broader community.

The assessment process includes gathering input from students, families, staff, and community partners to better understand barriers to student success and opportunities for support. Information collected during this planning year helps guide the development of targeted strategies, partnerships, and wraparound services designed to meet the unique needs of each school community.

Findings from the assessment will inform the schools’ Community School implementation plans and help ensure resources and services are aligned to support student well-being, engagement, and academic success.

Through Maryland’s Concentration of Poverty Grants, Community Schools receive funding to provide:

  • Wraparound student and family supports
  • Mental and physical health services
  • Academic enrichment opportunities
  • Family engagement resources
  • Community partnerships and programming

The Blueprint for Maryland’s Future provides these grants to eligible schools based on student poverty data. Funding supports key personnel, including Community School Coordinators and healthcare professionals, as well as additional services tailored to student and family needs.

CCPS is committed to strengthening connections between schools, families, and community partners to ensure every student has access to the support and opportunities needed for success.
