Summer Reading Program
Summer reading affords all students the opportunity to enjoy books in a relaxed and leisurely setting while developing a lifelong love of reading. Research has shown that students who read during the summer months retain more learning and move into the new school year more prepared than those students who do not engage in reading. Calvert County Public Schools encourages all students and their families to engage in reading together this summer by exploring books of all kinds for information and enjoyment!
Calvert County Public Schools is in partnership with Calvert Library and its branches to promote summer reading and support students and their families.
Calvert Library and Calvert County Public Schools have partnered to create this brand‐new summer initiative and share our love of reading with the community! Adults and students are invited to participate simply by keeping track of the number of books read during the summer on the Calvert Library’s Beanstack platform. Our goal is to read 30,000 books!
As the parent/guardian of a CCPS student, you can help ensure your child is reading over the summer and returns to school in the fall ready to learn! Participants can earn prizes along the way.
Students who log into the Beanstack platform on the Calvert Library website and log at least one book will receive a completion certificate when they return to school in the fall.
The link for summer reading and the Beanstack platform to log books can be found at www.calvertlibrary.info
Students will have the opportunity to sign up in school or at Calvert Library prior to the start of summer.
Students will sign up using their CRAB card log in information. This will make remembering their log in easy each year, and sign ups should carry over from year to year.
Calvert Library also offers many activities during the summer. Check their website for up to date information and get text message updates about summer reading by texting the number 81010 with the message @calvreads to get reminders. Alternatively, you can go to rmd.at/calvreads and sign up for text or email notifications.
Follow the excitement on Twitter with the #calvertREADS. Check out the competition between sports teams, schools, and more to see who can read the most over the summer. Follow @ccpsdigital and watch for pledges from teachers, librarians, principals, and the superintendent to read this summer!
