Gifted and Talented Education

Parent(s)/Guardian(s) of elementary and/or middle school student(s) seeking an appeal for gifted and talented identification and/or services must submit a formal request by December 31 (Grades, 2, 5, 7) using the following process:

Any parent/guardian wishing to appeal their child's Gifted and Talented Identification Results must notify the school's Gifted and Talented Liaison or Gifted and Talented Teacher before proceeding. After the parent/guardian has notified the school designee, they complete the GATE Identification Appeal Request Form. This form is automatically submitted to the Office of Gifted and Talented Education.

The Gifted and Talented Identification Committee reviews all appeals. Once your child's appeal has been reviewed, you will be notified of the final decision via email within 60 days.

When students transfer to Calvert County Public Schools with a prior GT identification, a formal evaluation of the identification is not completed by the Office of Gifted and Talented Learning. However, upon enrollment, parents should complete the Transfer Student With A Formal GT Identification Form. In addition, all supporting documentation can be uploaded through the Google Form to confirm that the student qualified for GT services. Please note that student data from a formal gifted and talented screening must be submitted. The data must consist of multiple data points to include measures of potential, aptitude, and achievement in order for the GT Identification to be considered. GT Identification letters indicating placement in GT courses will not be accepted without supporting data.
