Teacher Certification

Teaching certificates are issued by the Maryland State Department of Education. Applicants for a teaching position should possess one or have sufficient qualifications to obtain one. Teachers must also pass Praxis I; and then Praxis II. Information on certification is available from the Maryland State Department of Education.

Praxis Series

The Praxis Series™ is an Educational Testing Service (ETS) program that provides tests and other services for states to use as part of their teacher certification process.

Those who are interested in teaching but who have not completed an approved program in teacher education at a college or university are advised that the Calvert County Public Schools employs the lowest percentage of provisional teachers of all the school systems in Maryland. However, in recent years our school system has employed a number of career changers. Opportunities for employment of such applicants are greater in areas of critical need or during the course of the school year. We certainly intend to continue to place qualified certificated teachers in each classroom.
