Purpose

The Superintendent’s Lighthouse Award recognizes students, educators, educational support professionals, and school and district leaders who serve as guiding lights within Calvert County Public Schools. Like a lighthouse that provides direction, stability, and hope, these individuals illuminate the path for others through their actions, character, innovation, and commitment to excellence.

Each month, the award honors those who:

  • Go above and beyond in service to students, colleagues, or the community
  • Demonstrate creativity, problem-solving, and forward-thinking practices
  • Serve as positive role models who inspire excellence
  • Embody CCPS core values:
    • A safe learning environment and well-being for all
    • Growth, achievement, and excellence for all
    • A culture of collaboration and creativity
    • Acknowledging diverse perspectives
    • Responsible and ethical stewardship of all resources

Award Categories

Monthly honorees may be recognized in the following categories:

Student

For students who show exemplary character, leadership, work ethic, or service.

Educator

For educators who demonstrate instructional excellence, innovation, and dedication to student growth.

Educational Support Professional

For educational support staff in schools and departments whose work keeps CCPS strong and student-centered.

Leadership

For school or district leaders who exemplify servant leadership and inspire a culture of excellence.

Eligibility

  • All current CCPS students and employees are eligible.
  • Must be in good standing within the school community.
  • Previous honorees may be nominated again after one school year.

Nomination Process

Who May Nominate?

  • Students
  • Teachers and Staff
  • Parents/Guardians
  • Administrators and Supervisors
  • Community Members

How to Nominate

Nominations will be accepted through:

  1. A simple online nomination form posted on the CCPS website OR
  2. Paper nomination forms available at schools for families without internet access

Nominations are accepted year-round, with a monthly cut-off on the 20th of each month. One nominee will be selected from each category, each month, and nominations will be purged each month/quarter.
