School Description:
Dowell Elementary School is the southernmost school in Calvert County, Maryland. We are located just north of the Governor Thomas Johnson Bridge that connects Calvert and St. Mary's counties. Our school district includes portions of southern Calvert County which extend from Solomons Island to Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant. Dowell Elementary School opened its doors in August, 1999. This 70,435 square foot building sits on 19 acres and was constructed in less than one year by R.R. Gregory, Inc. under a design by Smolen EMR & Associates Architects. In 2008, two additional kindergarten classrooms were added to provide room for our full-day kindergarten program. The mission of Dowell Elementary School is to promote the academic and social development of each of our students. We do this by maintaining high expectations for achievement, creating a positive learning environment, and communicating effectively with students, parents, and the community.
