Skillet Fish

(Gobiesox stromosus)

One of the tiny fish caught only rarely during the seventh grade program is the skilletfish.  This fish gets its name from its shape, which is like a miniature skillet or frying pan, another name for this fish is the Oyster Clingfish, as it clings tightly to the shell of an oyster.  The skilletfish spends its day inside the empty shell of an oyster waiting for a tiny animal to swim by and become its lunch.  The skilletfish is one of the most common fish species to inhabit the oyster reef but has only rarely been caught at King's Landing Park.
