What is Farm-to-School?
The Jane Lawton Farm-to-School Program was established in 2008. Created to promote the sale of Maryland grown farm products to Maryland schools, this program is also designed to educate students about where their food comes from, how it is produced and the benefits of a healthy diet.
The CCPS Child Nutrition Program, Calvert County branch of the University of Maryland Extension Office and the Southern Maryland Agricultural Development Commission work together with local farmers and other community volunteers to host an annual celebration event during September's Maryland Home Grown Lunch Week. Schools are encouraged to participate by hosting additional Farm-to-School celebration activities at their site.
