Board of Education Honors State Athletic Champions

The Board of Education of Calvert County Public Schools recently honored the athletes who won state championships during the 2018 spring season.

Dr. Daniel D. Curry, Superintendent, said, “We are very proud of these student athletes, and we thank their coaches for the many years they have dedicated to building successful programs.”

The state champion athletes for the spring season are:

  • Softball, Huntingtown High; and

  • Sierra Butler, Discus, Huntingtown High.

The 2018 Maryland Public Secondary School Athletic Association (MPSSAA) 3A Championship is the fourth for the Huntingtown High softball team. The state win followed their third consecutive 3A Southern Regional Championship and their fourth Southern Maryland Athletic Conference (SMAC) Championship. The team was coached by Mike Johnson.

Sierra Butler, a junior at Huntingtown High, won the MPSSAA 2017-2018 3A State Discus Championship. She was the MPSSAA 3A Southern High Jump Regional Champion and the SMAC High Jump Champion. Sierra was coached by Valerie Harrington, Jim Hall, and Mike Henshaw.
